How to make a sandblasting machine with your own hands
Such a tool is needed by masters in the house, if you often need to do degreasing, cleaning some parts, frosting and engraving glass. Factory models of devices are expensive, but there is a real alternative to them - a do-it-yourself sandblasting machine. Its quality will not be worse than that of an expensive analogue, but it is made from non-deficient materials.
To make a sandblasting apparatus, you need a compressor that can deliver a stream of air under pressure. Stocked up: by a container for an abrasive - a gas bottle, a PET bottle; air duct; gearbox; reinforced hose; abrasive (sand); a gun that will spray the abrasive. The design of the latter consists of a mixer, nozzle, air levers and sand.
Compressors often buy ready-made. This is explained by the fact that it must have high productivity (500 l / min), and it is difficult to make such a device yourself. In addition, the finished device has an automatic subcooling mode.
The nozzle is in contact with the abrasive, because it is made of durable material. But it is better to purchase ready-made, for the manufacture of which boron, tungsten carbide is used. Made of cast iron, ceramics work for only a few hours and fail.
As an abrasive, sand is used, preferably quarry. It is sieved, separating fractions within 0.5 ... 3 mm, which are used for work. Sometimes baking soda is used that can clean and grind surfaces well.
For the manufacture of a sandblasting apparatus, a gas cylinder from freon, propane is often used. The compressor should be from 3 kW and capacity close to 500 l / min. Use: ball valves (regulate the transmission of air, abrasive); a piece of a water pipe (for example, a two-inch pipe having a thread and a plug) for a funnel into which sand is poured; a tee on a diameter of 15 mm; A 2-meter piece of hose with a diameter of 1.4 cm and a 5-meter centimeter; finished sleeve (inner diameter 1 cm, length 5 m); fittings, clamps for hoses; nozzle; FUM tape used in seals.
Gas is released from the cylinder, the valve is removed; for safety, the remaining mixture is pumped out by the compressor. Drill holes in it: one in the bottom (diameter 1.2 cm), the second in the place located in the upper part - boring up to two inches in diameter. A tee is welded at the bottom of the container.
The cylinder is supplied with legs or wheels from below. The latter option is better, since it is easier to move the device to the desired location. Install a 14-millimeter fitting in the cylinder (instead of the valve). The corresponding hose is attached to it, its second end is at the tee. A sleeve with a mixer and nozzle is installed on the free exit of the tee. A hose is connected to the mixer from the compressor outlet (1-centimeter in diameter).
Sand is loaded into the container, a compressor is connected and surfaces can be cleaned.
